help me get my boots on

Finally, four: The headline of my centerpiece and of my day. Four sports in Glendale. Four days until I have a sister again.

The adventures of twentysomethings Nov. 14-15, downtown Phoenix:

I found myself first at the week-old, ex-department store Hanny's, staring into a $7, well put together Appletini, waiting on a margherita flatbread. Dana got some beets. Tyler some meat. We each took a turn bouncing on the glass panel that replaces the elevator-shaft-turned-restaurant-attraction. It was only that panel that separated us from falling into the center of the earth. Next, the roller derby. Girl-on-girl action.

Day 2 I was in this small, backwards theater watching some Shakespearian-like nonsense unfold, the town scum overthrowing the king. The king dying. The cast too small, too funny, too dramatic, too dreamy. Next, my first trip to Fate where water comes in the form of Fiji (or in a heated plastic cup sans ice). Onto the Roosevelt round 2. Same seat, different drink, no food, no frequenter.

I cleaned and prepared and made some macaroni. I washed that bathroom floor. I caught up on Californication. Dexter. I am onto you!

we went running through the oil

After ten leaf-filled Ohio days, here I am again: Arizona.

While revisiting my beloved, cherished, under appreciated midwest home, I ate a lot of feta-is-beta bagels, played way too much scrabble, bought heartbreaker on vinyl, turned into Borat, voted in a swing state, watched Barack Obama's acceptance speech on a shitty projection screen via cnn.com at the Donkey, bought my boyfriend a Hot Nut on his 21st birthday, saw B.J. Novak's surprisingly funny stand-up, stared at the trees, talked to the trees, & took some of the trees home.

And I visited the Moonville tunnel again -- on my way to which, we drove through Chauncey, a beautifully sad little not-town between Athens and Nelsonville.

On November 21 I'll have a sister. On November 29 I'll have a Davis. Is it ok to wish it was then?

alone on an airplane, falling asleep

Last night-she said: the Roosevelt Tavern (hippest place to have a drink post-work). I received my locally brewed beer to the tune of The Jayhawks (Save it for a Rainy Day) next to the man who obviously frequents the restored 1900s house, "Another house brew, Jake?" she asked. And he said yes. Four grilled cheeses (the preferred menu choice) & one table switch later we exited to The Bends.

I'm flying on Halloween & hoping the flight attendants give us candy.

My company is laying off 10% of its workforce, but they gave us all candy.

Get me back to Ohio.

jack swilling

90 degrees and sunny today. I hear there's snow in O-hi-o.

I'll be home soon, you know. The black on my nails is chipping off but I haven't any remover or a drugstore within 10 miles. So there it will sit. And here I sit, 10 hours at a time.
